Can my child stay on my health insurance plan after they turn 18?
As established by the Affordable Care Act, children can usually stay on their parent's job-based health insurance plans until they are 26 years and on their parent's Marketplace plan through Dec 31 of the year they turn 26.

My child is attending college. What then?
Many colleges universities offer their own health insurance plans for students. Benefits vary, so always research all of your options before coming to a decision that would be best for your child.

Will I maintain access to my child's insurance information?
Unless your child remains on your health insurance plan, you will not have access to their health insurance after they turn 18.

My child is covered by CHIP - what now?
CHIP coverage only lasts until your child is 18. Once they turn 19, Medicaid coverage requirements vary by state. In California, they would be eligible for Medicaid if they are within 138% of the Federal Poverty Line.

What if my child does not qualify for Medicaid?
Your child can can get individual coverage with help from Covered California if they are ineligible for Medicaid.

What if my child has a disability and I don't have an insurance plan they can stay on?
For individuals with disabilities, they can qualify for MediCal depending on their income. If they don't qualify and are currently working, they can qualify for the Working Disabled Program.
